The
Future of the Depot
FUTURE
ADJACENT COMMERCIAL AREAS
Improvements
to commercial area to the south of the depot and facing 2nd Street,
will provide essential uses to the area residents as well as serve
as a local community gathering place.
Future
Light Industrial Areas
Light
industrial development is proposed in the area between K Street
and the I-215 Fwy. The transition of this area to Light industrial
development, consistent with Citys existing General Plan will
be undertaken in a subsequent phase.

RELOCATE
HISTORIC HOMES TO DEPOT DISTRICT
Relocate architecturally significant historic homes from Lakes &
Streams Project (and other areas planned for clearance) to vacant
lots in Historic Depot District.

ROADWAY IMPROVEMENTS
The
physical improvements in this plan are but the first phase of a
larger area plan that will radiate out from the depot site eventually
extending to the I-215 Freeway to the east, Rialto Avenue to the
south, and Mount Vernon Avenue to the west.
Future
Site Improvements
- Existing
palm trees identify the area and add to the southwest character
of the neighborhood.
- New
trees will be adding lower height semi-evergreen shade landscape
environment.
- A
landscaped traffic median will be installed along 2nd Street between
Mount Vernon Avenue and K Street.
- New
street lights will be installed, with a design that is consistent
with the heyday of the depot.
- Sidewalk
will be added to facilitate pedestrian circulation between the
depot, surrounding uses.
- Historic
Depot District entry monuments will be constructed to emphasize
the significance of the district.
- Viaduct
Boulevard will be realigned to create a four way intersection
with 2nd Street and Giovanola Avenue.
- The
overall roadway width will allow for a wider landscape buffer
area between the parking and the adjacent commercial developments.
- The
wider landscape buffer will accommodate meandering sidewalks and
a bike path, further increasing the multi-modal uses of the depot.
